Psychological Therapy The word 'therapy' is most often used to mean the psychological treatment of emotional and behavioural problems. Therapy is a process that's similar to learning. Through therapy people learn about themselves. They discover ways to overcome troubling feelings or behaviours, develop inner strengths and skills, or make changes in themselves or their situations. I have over 15 years experience and extensive training in a number of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) (for trauma), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and Systemic Therapy. This enables me to offer an approach that will best meet your needs. One of the therapies that may be used during therapy is known as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP recognises that the therapist's assumptions and presuppositions will have an impact on the therapy process. In studies looking at outstanding therapists, it became evident that some presuppositions had positive effects on the therapy outcome. You can find out more by reading NLP in Therapy (PDF 60Kb). |
